I first met and became friends with Sheriff James Van Beek in the 1990s while we were serving as deputy sheriffs in the Roaring Fork Valley. Although we worked for different agencies, we often relied on one another for backup and support when needed. During those years, I quickly came to appreciate James's values, his community-first mindset, and his positive attitude toward our profession. I learned that he was someone I could trust to make thoughtful, considerate, and appropriate decisions, even in challenging situations. Since becoming Fire Chief and serving the Roaring Fork Valley communities within Eagle County, I have continued to work closely with Sheriff Van Beek. Over the years, I have relied on his leadership, sought his advice, and witnessed firsthand his unwavering commitment to public service. Endorsement letter from Chief Stewart Curry, New Castle Police Department, supporting Sheriff James Van Beek for re-election
“
Throughout my law enforcement career, I have had the opportunity to work alongside Sheriff Van Beek in several capacities, and I have consistently been impressed by his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the communities he serves. His approach to law enforcement has always been centered on building trust, fostering partnerships, and ensuring that public safety is achieved through strong community relationships. I first had the opportunity to work closely with Sheriff Van Beek while serving with the Basalt Police Department. During that time, I witnessed firsthand his willingness to collaborate across jurisdictions, support neighboring agencies, and work toward solutions that benefited the entire region rather than any single organization. His leadership and accessibility made him a trusted partner, and our agencies were stronger because of that relationship. Later, as the Director of the Law Enforcement Training Academy at Colorado Mountain College, I again had the privilege of working with Sheriff Van Beek and his agency. His support of the academy and commitment to developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals was invaluable. He consistently recognized the importance of quality training and professional development, and his willingness to invest time, resources, and encouragement helped strengthen our program and ultimately benefited law enforcement agencies throughout our region. I greatly valued his partnership and unwavering support during my time leading the academy. Sheriff Van Beek understands that effective law enforcement is built on more than enforcing laws—it requires listening to the community, being transparent, supporting victims, collaborating with local agencies, and earning the trust of those we serve every day. His community-focused leadership has made a meaningful difference, and his dedication to public service is evident in every aspect of his work. As Chief of Police, I appreciate leaders who prioritize cooperation, professionalism, and service above all else. Sheriff Van Beek exemplifies those qualities, and I have every confidence that he will continue to lead the Sheriff's Office with integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the citizens of his community. I am proud to endorse Sheriff Van Beek for re-election and support his continued leadership.

Endorsement letter from Sheriff Michael Buglione, Pitkin County, Colorado, supporting Sheriff James Van Beek for re-election
“
I can speak firsthand to Sheriff Van Beek's character and reliability, both as a colleague and as a friend. When I was sworn in as Sheriff of Pitkin County, I was given just 48 hours by another agency to relocate inmates who were being housed out of county while our own jail was closed. It was an enormously difficult situation to inherit at one. Sheriff Van Beek stepped up without hesitation, working with me to house those inmates in Eagle County. That kind of support — offered quickly, generously, and without complication — says everything about who he is as a leader and as a partner to fellow sheriffs across our region.

Endorsement letter from Geoff Grimmer, Eagle, Colorado, supporting Sheriff James Van Beek for re-election
“
I am proud to support Sheriff James Van Beek for re-election. Over the past 20 months, I have been outspoken in my opposition to federal immigration policies and rhetoric that have unfairly stigmatized our Latino community. During those moments, Sheriff Van Beek never avoided difficult conversations. Whenever I asked to meet with him alongside Latino community leaders, he consistently made himself available—often within 48 hours—to answer questions and explain his responsibilities under the law. He has upheld new federal laws while integrating competing State legislation (ex. SB 25-276) and not lost sight of treating others with dignity and respect. That willingness to engage openly with those who hold different perspectives earns my appreciation. Sheriff Van Beek has helped keep our communities safe, guided our response to natural disasters with professionalism, worked collaboratively with local, state and federal officials, and made time to connect with students, seniors, and neighborhoods across Eagle County. His commitment to service began as a young soldier serving our country in the US Army. That dedication did not end when he returned to civilian life. For decades, he has continued serving the public with humility, integrity, and compassion. One of the things I appreciate most about James is that he has never acted as though any person is above another. He has a great sense of humor, listens before he speaks, and genuinely believes in the goodness of people. We have not agreed on every policy issue, particularly the responsibilities of the county sheriff's office in pushing back against federal immigration overreach, but leadership is measured by character, judgment, accessibility, and a lifetime of service. Sheriff Van Beek has demonstrated all of those qualities. His opponent deserves the opportunity to make her case to voters, and she is clearly an all-all-star in the law enforcement community. But for me, the choice is clear. James Van Beek has earned another term, and I will proudly support him for Sheriff in 2026. Keep Van Beek.

Endorsement letter from Johnny Lombardi, Former Deputy District Attorney, supporting Sheriff James Van Beek for re-election
“
It is with great pleasure that I strongly recommend James Van Beek for the position of Sheriff of Eagle County in November of 2026. I have known Sheriff Van Beek for 10 years in my capacity as a Deputy District Attorney in the State of Colorado. During that time, I have observed his unwavering dedication to public safety and to the community he is sworn to protect and serve. James Van Beek possesses exceptional leadership skills and a deep commitment to integrity, which I witnessed firsthand when we worked together in Eagle County. He consistently demonstrated a fair, even-handed approach to enforcing the law and handling sensitive situations with care and professionalism. He is a decorated veteran of the United States Army. Rebecca Anderson never served this County in then military. He has managed and led the department for over a decade. Rebecca Anderson never served in a management role at the Eagle County Sheriffs Department, but resigned from that agency to take a position with another law enforcement agency. She now wants to to return to instill her form progressive leadership which Eagle County would not benefit from. Sheriff Van Beek has an exceptional ability to foster strong relationships within the community. He has a proven record of increasing positive engagement and maintaining open communication. He is not only to add maintaining open communication. He is not only dedicated but also to improving the lives of those in he serves with dedication and his commitment to his staff of patrol, detention, administrative, and investigative personnel with the department. Sheriff Van Beek will continue to excel to that level of commitment, professionalism, and ethical behavior to the office of Sheriff of Eagle County. He is truly an asset to the community and I highly recommend him for this position.
